You Are Unique

1- Accept yourself the way you are

To feel good about yourself, you will have to accept yourself the way are. Everybody wants to be more beautiful, strong, tall, tan, courageous… But, like everybody else, you are not perfect, because perfection doesn’t exist. But you have more unique qualities than you think. By writing them down, you will realise just how unique you are.

2- Stop comparing yourself to others on social networks

If you constantly compare yourself to the people you see on Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and other social networks, try to take a break and stop using social networks for a while. The women or men you see on Instagram also have their own flaws. They show only a part of themselves, just the parts they want to show to the social world. It’s very often not who they really are and what they really look like. They use photoshop to enhance or even falsify their photos or use other ways to embellish their often more ordinary or even gloomy life.

Remember, what you see on Instagram is often very different from reality. It’s also useless to compare yourself with other people, because you are different and unique. Nobody is exactly like you and nobody is better or worse than you. You are who you are, and that’s what makes you extraordinary!

3- If you want to compare yourself, compare yourself to yourself

Sometimes, it’s a good idea to compare yourself to YOURSELF. Compare yourself to what you were yesterday and give yourself a goal of what you want to look like tomorrow, or in five or ten years, or just one year into the future. With this technique, you can see your personal improvement or setbacks, and you can keep an eye on your own evolution and how to outdo your own self.

4- Comparing yourself to others isn’t always a bad thing either…

Sometimes, it’s OK to compare yourself to others. By looking to other people as a mentor or as someone to look up to, you can motivate yourself to reach a certain personal goal or to improve something about yourself that you aren’t satisfied with. However, always take it with a grain of salt, and remember that what you see in others isn’t always the reality.

Comparing yourself to a role model can help you to evolve. Try to compare yourself to a mentor or a role model in a positive way, by looking at their good qualities, and observing how they have attained these qualities. If they have qualities that you’ve always strived for yourself, then find out what they did to get them, or better yet, just ask them for advice! Not only will you learn the path to become a better person, but you might also find out that it’s more work than you thought to get there, and learn a lot more along the way.

5- Stay confident

If you do not trust your own opinion, you can ask for advice from your family, your friends, your partner, or someone that you trust. Ask them to tell you about all your qualities, both good and bad. If these are people you truly love and trust, it will be easier to learn about your best qualities, as well as your flaws. And then, you can take this information to improve yourself and even ask your loved ones for feedback on your progress.

6- Be happy with what you have and who you are

Be grateful for how lucky you are in life. See the glass half full rather than half empty. You have a unique combination of strengths, qualities, and weaknesses that nobody else has. And that is what makes you who you are. And it is always in your hands to maintain, adjust, or learn to love who you are.
